The treatment plant is a critical infrastructure asset to the Wellington region. It currently provides up to 80 million litres of drinking water per day, approximately 45% of the Wellington region’s drinking water demand. Recent population growth forecasts and water consumption data indicate that over the next two years the risk of water supply restrictions to customers could increase significantly.

In partnership with Fulton Hogan Geeves Wellington have been working on a project to increase the treatment capacity of the plant, as well as upgrades that will improve the plant’s ability to remove algae, sediment and odour from the water. The 12 month project has involved all scaffolding and related disciplines – exterior scaffolding, confined space work, shrink wrapping, temporary roofs, propping and extensive engineering design.
