Geeves was tasked with providing a solution for weather protection and access, allowing the safe removal of the heritage building roof to complete Seismic strengthening works. This project has many challenges, one of the greater challenges is that the scaffolding can not touch the building due to the condition of the building and the nature of the work. This has resulted in the first of 3 stages being a 55m x 40m x 20m freestanding structure providing weather protection and the full facade and roof access incorporating loading bays rubbish shoots and stair access.
The next challenge was to provide across the roof itself, access is required to remove the existing tiles and install new structural elements then reinstate the tiles once the works are complete as we are unable to transfer any load to the building the platforms have been suspended from the temporary roof structure allowing safe unimpeded access to carry out the works. Under the temporary roof structure, there are around 500lm of suspended working platforms. The scaffolding has been carefully engineered so there are no ties into the existing building and is held in place with over 150t of Ballast!
